A VACUUM cleaner which turns dust into solid blocks is set to end one of housework’s dirtiest chores.

t squeezes the dust into hardened triangular wedges, so it fills up more slowly and is easier to empty.

t could also help sufferers of asthma, hay fever and other allergies which are made worse by particles escaping when traditional cleaners are emptied.

South Korean electronics giant LG says the vac boasting “the world’s first dust compression technology” will be available in Britain from May 17.

It will cost between £150 and £200, depending on the model.

LG says it can suck up three times as much dirt as rival cleaners. And it claims that other machines create five times more dust in the air when they are emptied.

The LG Compressor has a washable “high efficiency particulate filter” which gathers the dust. Four levels gradually filter the contents down. The finer particles which cannot be compressed are contained separately and the rest is compressed by a swirling rotablade.
