WANGARATTA’S ongoing car parking woes will be tackled in a council study set to be completed this month.
The Rural City of Wangaratta review will consider parking spaces available in the central business district (CBD) and the needs of the future.
Council’s infrastructure services director, Stephen Onions, said the task was "complex" given the community’s expectations and the opportunities available.
But he said the project would put forward major initiatives to be carried out in the next 12 months, as well as make some suggestions for the long-term.
Car parking has long been a bugbear for local residents, in particular those who work in the CBD and are in need of all day spaces.
Many have been forced to park long distances from their work place, and often at popular visitor stops such as Merriwa and Apex parks and Sydney Beach.
Most streets in the CBD provide for metered parking only, and are intended for customers of the city’s central businesses.
