You can see why people queued in the cold for Apple's prodigal child, as the second gen rectifies almost every minor flaw in the original classic. 3G and GPS satnav are now in, and there's the awesome multi touch screen, slick user interface, music and video skills and hundreds of new software apps available via iTunes.

Nokia's flagship foner leaves the iPhone looking like all talk and no walk. This update stuffs in 8GB of storage and an even bigger screen, while the exhaustive feature list includes satnav to find your way, HSDPA for web surfing and a 5-megapixel camera that even shoots DVD quality video. There simply isn't a more multi talented mobile.

Like Nigella, the Diamond is actually pretty useful and tasty. HTC's flagship model not only comes with every bell and whistle known to man and woman (including HSDPA and satnav), but it looks impressive too.
