Rob Bradley's survey of 210 years of scientifically inspired false predictions (Outlook, March 30) is certainly a bracing dose of skepticism on an impassioned subject, but skepticism is a feinting attack on inadequate ideas. A knockout blow is more in order when it comes to the prevailing explanation of the present global warming.

Members of the scientific community know of a number of past global warmings and spikes in atmospheric carbon dioxide, but they cannot explain them. Yet they claim to know how the current case occurred.

warming (AD 1000 to 1300) saw Vikings farming Greenland.

By 1400 the last farmers were gone and their graves were filled with starved child-sized adults.

Paleobotanists have solid evidence that 9,500 years ago atmospheric carbon dioxide levels were as high as today.

The scientific consensus on global warming does not have a clue how all this occurred.
