Chinese authorities have launched a number of patrolling measures on the internet, including animaed beat officers that pop-up on a user's screen and walk, bike and drive across the browser warning them of illegal content.
As from 1 Septembere, the cartoon figures will appear every 30 minutes on a number of China's top portals. AP reported that by the end of the year, the alerts will appear on all websites registered with Beijing servers, the Beijing Public Security Ministry said in a statement.
China stringently polices the web for material and content that the ruling Communist Party finds politically or morally threatening to its power. Despite the tight controls, nudity, profanity, illegal gambling and pirated music, books and film still easily make way to Chinese computers.
