This Federal Style farmhouse not only had barns and outbuildings, but was also surrounded by several farm fields. We pulled into the drive to ask permission to take pictures and found the owner and another man up on the roof of the barn pictured below.
They paused in their work while I hollered up my query. The owner gave me the go ahead and said he'd be right down to talk to me. I told him there was no need and that I didn't want to disrupt his work, but he started down anyway.
Whether he was just happy to tell me the history of his home or he needed an excuse for a break from his work, I don't know. What I do know is that I couldn't have hoped to meet a nicer guy. He told me his name was John Forman and that he was the fourth generation of his family to live in this house.
Mr. Forman's great grandfather bought the house and land in 1865 from a Mr. Hunt. John reckoned that the house was built in the 1840s or 1850s, but he didn't know for certain the actual date.
