Starbucks Coffee Co. (SBUX) continues to pay growers premiums for specialty or high-end beans that are unrelated to world price fluctuations in New York


Last year, Starbucks paid an average of $1.42 per pound for green coffee from all origins under its Coffee and Farmer Equity practices,

Starbucks Monday announced 13 "measurable goals" it intends to achieve by 2015 as part of the so-called Starbucks Shared Planet program.

Under the plan, all its coffee will be "responsibly grown and ethically traded," Starbucks said, and all its cups will be reusable or recyclable.

The roasting giant plans to reduce its environmental footprint or impact through energy and water conservation, recycling and green-building construction.


Starbucks will also double its Fair Trade Certified coffee purchases to 40 million pounds in 2009, making it the largest buyer of such beans in the world, the company said early Tuesday.
