The Outer Continental Shelf, though believed to contain up to 60B barrels of crude oil, is subject to some drilling restrictions. Recently, several states and the federal government have begun discussing removing restrictions to ease the current oil crisis. The EIA reports that access "would not have a significant impacton domestic crude oil and natural gasproduction or prices before 2030," when production might peak at 220,000 barrels a day.
