The first rule of comedy: never apologize.
David Letterman has violated this rule.
And unlike Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, I refuse to accept his apology.
Letterman's lifelong body of work includes not a single instance of his joking about rape, statutory or otherwise.
Comedy is by its very nature politically incorrect. The best comedians are iconoclasts. They make us uncomfortable. They rock our worlds and make us reexamine our views.
When a meaningful comedian is shamed into apologizing, especially by a politician who uses her daughters as props, that comedian loses his significance.
The politically correct thought police won.
Oh, and by the way, if you're offended by this blog... I don't apologize.
